CAMBRIDGE GUITAR WEEKEND - 30 September to 2 October 2011

The 4th Cambridge Guitar Weekend will take place on the weekend of 30 September / 2 October 2011 and is again being arranged by Tony Ainsworth. Peter Rueffer will again be the course Musical Director.

The workshop / coaching will be carried out this year by Peter Rueffer and Peter Nutall.

We are delighted to confirm that Chris Stell will be present for the duration of the course in an informal capacity.

The course location is Buckden Towers which is in the lovely village of Buckden adjacent to the A1 trunk road just south of Huntingdon. The location is easily accessible and is approximately one hour from North London, the M25, South Yorkshire, East Anglia and the Midlands.

Buckden Towers is of considerable historical and architectural interest and the House has undergone some internal refurbishment. There is a church on site which is ideal for the proposed Saturday night concert. The gardens are beautiful, extensive and there is lovely walled knot garden and large lake.

There are lots of local countryside walks, Grafham Water, river walks etc. A pass is also available to use the local swimming pool/gym at Offord Marina for those staying overnight.

Check out The Claret Centre for further information.

The House is in the village centre and there are Georgian Inns within 150 metres.

Breakfast is at 8am, lunch at 12.30pm and evening meal at 6.30pm. There will be tea and coffee breaks between sessions.

The concert for course participants (and guests and perhaps a few members of the public) will be held in the rehearsal room. It will be performed by Peter Rueffer and his duo partner Jeff Rodrigues. At the end of their set they will be joined by Peter Nuttall for a trio and then by Chris Stell for a quartet. The concert is included in the course fee

Following the concert there will be a pop orchestra session in the rehearsal room. It is hoped that some participants may wish to entertain us in the lounge afterwards.

The students’ concert will consist of a performance of the Guitar Orchestra pieces including Peter Nuttall’s coaching composition and of the individually prepared workshop pieces.

Chris Stell has agreed to provide a limited degree of individual coaching. This would be a private arrangement. However, the course emphasis will be on ensemble playing and we do not wish the course programme to be interrupted. For this reason solo coaching will not be available during the large ensemble sessions. Accordingly, it may not be possible to provide solo coaching to all who request it. If you are interested then please let me know. Chris has indicated a concessionary fee of £15 for 30 minutes

The Orchestra music will be supplied by Peter Rueffer, he is happy to supply music for coaching if you wish.

Participation in coaching is, of course, not compulsory but this does seem to be an element of courses which is greatly appreciated.

As much correspondence as possible will be by email and the music will be distributed in electronic format as PDF files.

As there will be no public concert it has been possible to reduce fees. These will range from £120 non-residential to £210 per person for a shared occupancy apartment.. Typically a single occupancy twin room will be £200.

We are able to provide bespoke fees for various combinations of requirements e.g. partial non-residential attendance, meals for guests, shared accommodation and the like.

It is also possible for non-guitarist friends or partners to come and share your room at a daily cost of £30 B&B up to £55 full board.

There is no bar. However, participants may bringing their own alcoholic beverages.

These rates compare extremely favourably with other weekend courses.

A non-refundable deposit of £40 per person will be required with your application. If you are subsequently unable to attend deposits will be refunded only if all residential places have been taken up.

We were fully booked in 2010 so early booking is recommended.

It was a great weekend in 2010. Some changes have been made to reflect feedback in 2010 which we hope will improve things still further.
