Máximo
Diego Pujol visit to Cambridge: Details of activities
There will be two masterclasses.
Each player at the masterclasses will have a slot of 20-30 minutes at
one of the two sessions (your choice which one). In that time,
you can perform a short piece (of your choice) and get feedback, advice
and coaching from Pujol.
Maximo welcomes a range of
playing levels, and believes that advanced players can also learn from
less advanced players. We therefore hope to have a range of
players at each of the two masterclasses, from near-beginners to
professional players.
There will also be listeners at the masterclasses, and you
will
play to an audience including the other masterclass players and people
who are only listening but not playing.
The workshop will
cover two
topics: elements of tango style, and technical issues around guitar
practice, playing and performance. The balance between these topics
will be flexible, and will depend on the interests of participants. It
will be a practical session, so bring your guitar. Again, we are aiming
for a mixed ability group.
The workshop will provide opportunities to try out ideas as a
group. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to play
individually, perhaps to demonstrate a difficulty or a question they
would like advice on, making it like a group lesson. If time is short,
we will give priority to participants who are not performing in a
masterclass.
In the concert on
Saturday evening, Pujol will play some of his own compositions as well
as music by other composers closely associated with traditional
Argentine
folk music, such as Piazzolla and Falu.
Finally, Pujol will lead part of a rehearsal
of the Cambridge Guitar Orchestra in playing one of his
compositions. It will be the first time the CGO will have
rehearsed the piece ... so it might be challenging! This session
will be open to anyone who is interested in observing the rehearsal.
